Target Conference 2013: April 3 – 5, Groningen, The Netherlands

The Target Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to bring together key national players in Big Data in one location. These will include key researchers from the academic and private sector, key players in the creative industry, policy makers and investors / funding agencies. This creates the environment to fulfill the objective of the Target Conference: to enhance the national R&D agenda in the field of Big Data and to expose the various Big Data projects  in the north of the Netherlands. Following a plenary assessment of the current status, the focus will be on parallel sessions to investigate priorities and opportunities for a leading Dutch role over the next 5 years in the field of Big Data.

• Key note (April 5): How to gain value from text analytics on Big Data – Dr. Anton Heijs
• There is a growing need for data driven decision making. The growing amount of available data enables us to obtain better information. However, this requires advanced technology put in the hands of the data scientists. Treparel focuses with their KMX software on developing and providing a platform for big data text analytics. Data scientist can use KMX to setup and run analytic pipelines and provide valuable insight for business users. The advantages of different big data technologies to build many models fast and to run these models on large data sets will be discussed. Several use cases will be presented with a special focus on the value of using multiple visualization techniques in an integrated approach to discover patterns in the data without a-priori knowledge.

II-SDV Conference 2013: April 15-16, Nice (France)

The II-SDV meeting takes place in Nice in April 2013 in the Hotel Plaza in central Nice. The meeting provides an international forum for those in the field of advanced search applications, data and text mining, and visualization technology. The primary focus is on tools for intelligence and the meeting examines the requirements of specialists in scientific, patent and technical information.

The meeting will be of interest to those who wish to update themselves and keep in touch with the leading edge of search engines for information search and analysis technologies; it will feature approximately 22 speakers for the two days.

• Key Note (April 15): Large scale Application of Text Mining and Visualization in the EU Fusepool Project – Dr. Anton Heijs 
• The EU-funded fusepool project brings together state-of-the-art text analysis and visualisation technologies to enable SMEs to perform patent analysis, partner matching and finding funding opportunities. This presentation describes the technologies behind the platform, the use cases and the future directions. Also we present the rich interactive visualisations in a browser that enable many users of the fusepool platform to benefit from the large scale analysis capabilities of the platform.
